    What You Need to Know about Eulen America

REVOLVING DOOR OF LEADERSHIP AT EULEN AMERICA

For several years, internal disputes within the Alvarez family in Spain have created uncertainty about the leadership of Eulen Group, the parent company of Eulen America.  In 2014, Eulen America filed a lawsuit against several recently dismissed top executives, including its own CEO, CFO and the son of Eulen Group’s founder, whom one of the defendants stated was part of the family dispute.  After the lawsuit, it took more than two years for Eulen America to appoint a new CEO, and since it started operations in the U.S. in 2008, the company has already undergone several major changes in leadership.

NUMEROUS STRIKES AND POOR LABOR STANDARDS

Eulen America has a questionable record when it comes to its treatment of employees across many of its worksites. In Fort Lauderdale alone Eulen workers have gone on strike four times in a span of a little more than a year, and last year Eulen workers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport also went on strike. Additionally, workers in Miami and New York have also filed unfair labor practices charges against Eulen with the National Labor Relations Board, some of which Eulen has agreed to settle and others that are still under investigation. Even though Eulen did not admit any wrongdoing, it has still agreed to settle multiple wage and hour claims, including a recent wage recovery claim for workers at Fort Lauderdale Airport.

HEALTH & SAFETY PROBLEMS

In the past Eulen has been cited by OSHA for violations of federal workplace health and safety standards at Tampa International Airport. Moreover, as recently as last year workers of a Eulen subcontractor operating in Miami complained publicly to the press and elected officials about their working conditions such as fears over exposure to carbon monoxide, poor ventilation, and being supplied water that was sourced from a tap next to a toilet.

LAWSUITS FILED BY PASSENGERS

Airline passengers have filed lawsuits against Eulen, and in some cases the airline which Eulen was servicing. Some of these lawsuits claim bodily injuries resulting from being struck by Eulen golf carts or claims related to Eulen’s wheelchair services. There are two negligence lawsuits that are still pending in Miami, and in the other cases Eulen agreed to settle after denying the allegations.

Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ has been involved in a labor dispute with Eulen America for several years as part of the Union’s larger campaign to organize the employees of airline service contractor at major airports on the East Coast, including employees of Eulen America. We would like to encourage you to hire responsible contractors that not only respect workers’ rights but that can guarantee uninterrupted quality services, prioritize safety and have good stable management.
